Hello Babearinos! I missed you!
Monday 3/24- I went to a very sweaty hot yoga class in the morning, and came home and made a green smoothie with my least favorite high protein food, cottage cheese and also some powdered peanut butter (new fave space age food!), banana, spinach and collagen. I was having friends over for dinner for the first time in over a year, so I spent most of the day cooking and shopping for it which was a lot of fun! My dear buddies Janet and Daniel came by with their sweet little daughter, Sloan. We started with ice cold dirty vodka martinis because I had been gifted some nice vodka from an event I did, and it was the only booze I had in the house. I feel the need to explain drinking vodka so you don’t get the wrong idea about me. I made a big salad of little gems and radicchio with anchovies and parm, risotto al limone with roasted garlic and cherry tomatoes and swordfish with roasted fennel and this killer green sauce that I made from spinach and herbs. We laughed a lot and when they left I rewatched the first two episodes of White Louts and ate some pineapple. It appears that I’m obsessed.
Tuesday 3/25- My treadmill movie was What Lies Beneath, which I don’t think is a very good movie, but very entertaining and the perfect for the treadmill! Evil Harrison Ford is still v hot. I’m doing a mini ZAZA popup this week from home, so I spent the whole day cooking, shopping and binge listening to The Rewatchables podcast. I popped into Caputo’s Fine Foods and shot the breeze with my friends Joseph and Franco who’s family owns it, and they kindly gifted me a rice ball filled with braised short rib and it was AMAZING!! I made lasagna, spinach and feta stuffed shells, crab cakes with green rice, pistachio cookies, carrot cake for the popup and GF cookie dough for a party I’m catering this weekend and froze it. By 8pm I was totally exhausted but I managed to make a quick dinner. I sautéed some shrimp with cherry peppers, canned tomatoes, garlic and lots of spinach and made a taco with a a Vista Hermosa flour tortilla that I charred over the burner, avocado & cuke salad, shaved radicchio, cilantro and a big blop of sour cream! I drenched it in hot sauce and let me tell you, this was eating good in the neighborhood! I took a bubble bath and then snuggled into the couch to watch Whit Stilman’s, The Last Days of Disco. Love this movie, and it was like a warm blanket on top of the warm blanket I was already cuddled up under.
Wednesday 3/26- Woke up super early to finish cooking a few things for the popup. Ate a huge bowl of pineapple, blueberries and raspberries with fresh lime juice and Trader Joe’s chili lime seasoning sprinkled on top. I watched The Untouchables on the stair master and nearly fell off when I saw Costner in that three piece suit! I ate the leftover swordfish with some avocado while standing over the sink. It was popup day so I got everything together and then had the pleasure of seeing some sweet, familiar faces, which made me very happy! I made one of my favorite quick dinners- baked tofu, sweet potatoes, broccoli and cabbage. I topped it with some cilantro, scallions and lime and watched The Fugitive for the 987th time in preperation for this weeks Stress Baking letter. Spoiler alert-- it really was a one armed man after all.
Thursday 3/27- Big cooking day in for Sundays big GF dessert party for my friend Ana! I made chocolate budino and more cookie dough for the freezer. Smashed some leftover tofu for lunch. I had a super fun friend date at night with my buddies AD and Guy. We went bowling at Melody Lanes and got bira tacos from a truck outside after. Guy made homemade piña coladas for bowling which was a real treat! I got home kind of late, so I just watched an episode of The Sopranos and called it a night.
Friday 3/28- I pumped some iron at the gym and then came home to make lemon almond sheet cakes for the party. WOW! These were so moist and delicious, and I topped them with a super fluffy lemon cream cheese frosting. I wanted to go see Harold and Maude at The Paris, but I took too long making my cakes. I finished up around 6 and got a craving to watch Goodfella’s after listening to them cover it on The Rewatchables. I made a quick turkey bolognese and had it with some lumache and a giant salad with arugula, spinach, radicchio and red onion, which I piled on top of the pasta. Covered the whole thing with a blanket of pecorino romano.
Saturday 3/29- Started the day with a pilates class, and came home to devour my new obsession of pineapple, raspberries and blueberries w TJ’s chili lime seasoning. Worked on the finishing touches for the party and then met my friend Kira at Leyenda, because it was their last night:( We had a marg and I came home early and ate a tortilla that I charred over the burner with some goat gouda and avocado inside. Super glam! I watched Fletch and went to bed early.
Sunday 3/30- Party day! I was really exited to cater this party because it was for my sweet friend Ana’s baby shower. Also I was working with my friends AD and Guy, so it was good vibes all around. We put out a beautiful spread, and Ana’s mom made Pancit, a Filipino noodle dish, for 100+ people! It was a blast! After we finished AD and I went to Henry Public and had a martini and deviled eggs. I got home by like 6;30, took a bath and ordered Thai food from Zabb Puh Twan in Cobble Hill and it was pretty freaking good! I got Khao Soi and spring rolls and both were very good! Watched White Lotus and tbh, I was a little underwhelmed, but I look forward to see how it all plays out in next week’s finale!
See you cutie pies next week. In the mean time, LMK what you guys are watching and eating!
XOXO,
Z
